The brief

Document the making of seven large-scale artworks for PETRONAS Carigali, each made by hand by Sarawak artisans working with Tanoti.

Our approach

We built the film around one question: what does it truly take to create a single piece of craft? We answered it in miles travelled, hands involved and time invested.

We followed the makers from forest to finished wall. We went from Tanoti House in Kuching to the Ulu Tutoh villages of the Upper Baram and Rumah Gare in Ulu Kapit, harvesting rattan, dyeing yarn, threading beads and weaving with Penan, Iban, Malay and Tanoti artisans. Shot to feel mystical and unhurried, the film ends where it should: with the many hands and communities behind every piece.
